It is important to note that in some circumstances it would be prudent and tax efficient to place a life policy into Trust. This is to ensure the proceeds are paid to whom they are intended as quickly as possible.

A policy not written in Trust will normally be subject to inheritance tax, in the event of a claim, and any payment would not be made until grant of probate is received, which can be an extensive length of time.

A flexible Trust is normally used, because this allows the beneficiaries to be changed should the Settlor (policy owner) decide in the future.

This is an extremely complex area and if you are in any doubt we recommend you seek Independent Financial Advice.
